Keyboard shortcuts can be used to navigate aspects of this site without a mouse or cursor.


When viewing a document, select or tab into the image viewer and use the following controls to manipulate the image.


  • Move up: w or [up arrow]
  • Move down: s or [down arrow]
  • Move left: a or [left arrow]
  • Move right: d or [right arrow]
  • Return to centre: 0
  • Zoom in: = or [shift] + w or [shift] + [up arrow]
  • Zoom out: - or [shift] + s or [shift] + [down arrow]
  • Rotate clockwise: r
  • Rotate counterclockwise: R
  • Flip horizontally: f

    The British Afro-Asian Solidarity Organisation

    Founded in 1988? with professor Mohammed Arif's General Secretary, BAASO held a number of public events during the following years, addressed by Members of Parliament, Members of the European Parliament, visiting international statespersons and other dignitaries, community activists, academics and others.

    These activities included a major seminar in 1989? and a number of press conferences, formal and informal meetings in Parliament, etc. The material in the HPR collection includes correspondence, newsletters, minutes of meetings, press releases and other documentation, as well as photos.

    The collection also includes documents of the 7th AAPSO Congress in Delhi, which was opened by Rajiv Gandhi. Included among these documents are accounts of the part played by BAASO General Secretary Professor Arif in the election of the AAPSO Ruling Council?, and notes of discussions of members of the BAASO delegation with representatives of a number of countries, including Vietnam, DPRK, etc.

    BAASO also sent delegations internationally, for example in response to an invitation from the Socialist Party of Turkey.
