Particular examples of the strong points of the archive are the collection papers of organizations active among national majority communities, both at national level and at local level for example:

Third World Solidarity is an organization currently enjoying widespread prestige for its work in promoting peace, tolerance equality and diversity, and helping to resolve conflicts through negotiations and diplomatic means. The papers in this archive chronicle the organization’s early years and establishment;

The British Afro-Asian Solidarity Organization has been the officially-recognized representative of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organization, the non-governmental arm of the Non-Aligned Movement, and the activities chronicled in the present archive give an insight into the interlinkage of domestic and international campaigning;

The archive of the British Commission of Inquiry for the initiatives of former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, which included substantial events in various different towns of Britain, thus once again demonstration the same potential public benefit, with particular reference to the public awareness of international law.

Particularly in the case of such local activities, the archive can complement the archives of such local authorities as Birmingham City Council’s archives of the Indian Workers Association, some of which overlap with, and mutually compliment, those of HPR.

In the case of those activities which organized activities of substantial scale, the archive illuminates the social and political roots of the massive demonstrations and movements which occurred in the years immediately following the end of HPR’s quarter century (notably the years 2002-3), and which have indeed in recent weeks (since October 2023) arisen again.

Consideration will consequently take account, in particular, of the following strengths of the foundation collections:

  • International solidarity organisations active in Britain, including Parliamentary Committees and organisations with international bodies including the Non-Aligned Movement.
  • National minority community campaigning organisations.
  • Controversies within the communist movement consequent on the Sino-Soviet split.
  • Activities promoting knowledge and application of international law relating to war crimes and economic sanctions.
  • Parliamentary and media activities involved in the Irish peace process.
  • Solidarity, friendship, delegations and academic interaction with socialist countries.
  • Cultural activities, including music connected with campaigning activities of various kinds.
